Give Stuff

Why Giving Your Stuff Matters

Many of us are fortunate and have a great deal of tangible resources in our lives, but there are lots of people who are in need.  A sturdy stroller to a mom fleeing domestic abuse, a warm coat for an adult or child, diapers for needy families, ingredients for a home-cooked meal – these are just some of the many, many ways to “donate stuff.”

If you are cleaning out closets or a garage, or if you find you have extra items that could be useful for those in need, contact us and we will hook you up to the right organization.

Partner Programs

Coat Drive

When the colder months come upon us, we want to help provide those in need with a warm coat. Check your closet for gently used jackets and coats for all ages. In partnership with CUMAC, our Paterson charity, we help provide coats for those without.

Collection bins are available in the Temple Atrium. Look for our announcements.

High Holiday Food Drive

Starting in September, Barnert encourages food drop-offs through Simchat Torah. Bring your bag of non-perishable food to Temple during the weeks leading up to the High Holidays, and help families avoid hunger. Look for our announcements.

St. Paul’s Shelter

For over 20 years on the fourth Tuesday night of each month, Barnert members have cooked and served a hot meal to homeless men at the shelter. Contribute either a portion of the meal—for example, meatloaf, starch, salad, or dessert – or warm, transport, or serve meals to residents.

CUMAC

This Paterson-based organization provides food and support for a community in need. Volunteer to sort and pack groceries or contact us to discuss other ways you can make a difference.

Center for Hope and Safety

Formerly Shelter Our Sisters, the Center for Hope and Safety is dedicated to assisting women and children who are victims of domestic violence by turning fear into safety, helplessness into strength, and isolation into hope. CHS provides emergency and transitional housing, emotional support, and a full array of social services. Donate travel sized toiletries, cosmetics, or other items for women (unused) and cosmetic bags as well as full sized toiletry items to support this Bergen county-based organization.
