In honor of International Women’s Day, the community is invited to a screening of the documentary film Brave Miss World, the true story of Israel’s former Miss World, Linor Abargil, and her journey from sex crime victim to advocate against sexual harassment.

Award-winning Brave Miss World is a documentary about former Miss World Linor Abargil, an Israeli beauty queen and former model, who was crowned Miss World in 1998, just a handful of weeks after being brutally raped. Rather than stay silent about the experience, she began a worldwide campaign to encourage other victims of sexual abuse and violence to speak about their experiences, an endeavor that is chronicled in the film. Brave Miss World was nominated for a 2014 Emmy for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking.

Following the film, Jewish Family & Children’s Services will facilitate audience discussion with the director, Cecilia Peck.

This special event is brought to the community in partnership with Temple Avodat Shalom, Beth Haverim Shir Shalom, Barnert Temple, Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley and Glen Rock Jewish Center together with National Council of Jewish Women Bergen County Section, YWCA Bergen County’s HealingSPACE and JCC of Northern New Jersey.
