8 Mitzvot for Chanukah Ad

Below are 8 easy ways to spread the light of Chanukah and rededicate yourself to the meaning of the Holiday.

Jewish Value: Feed the Hungry

Donate food items to support Barnert's cooking for the St. Paul's Men's Shelter.  You can also volunteer to cook.  Contact Judy Halle for details.

Jewish Value: CLOTHE the Needy

Donate new and gently-used winter coats to benefit CUMAC.  Coats for all ages and genders welcome.  Drop off at any of the locations listed in your weekly Social Action email or contact for drop-off locations.

Give to an organization of your choice, or make Barnert Temple your organization of choice.  Go to and select the fund or group you want from the drop-down list.

HONOR Parents

Help a parent/adult/senior with a chore at home.

Honor Tradition/Respecting Elders

Interview a grandparent, aunt/uncle, other relative.  Video tape or write down his/her story.

Spreading Joy and Happiness

Call someone or video chat with someone to give him/her a compliment and brighten his/her day.

Show Gratitude

Show gratitude to teacher and/or parents for all they are doing to teach and support children during the pandemic.  Make a thank-you card or small gift.

Visit the Sick

Reach out to someone who is ill (text, call or video depending on what’s appropriate).  You can also make a card to help brighten the day of someone who is battling illness.
