Adults of all ages and stages are invited to learn with us.
Rabbi Rachel Steiner, Sara Losch (Director of Lifelong Learning) and our educators engage people from all backgrounds

with stimulating courses and thoughtful discussion.

Look for the BeTA heading (Barnert Temple Adults) for special activities and opportunities designed especially for adults

for whom children are not their primary connection to the community.

All activities and courses take place at Barnert Temple unless noted.

Torah Study With Rabbi Rachel Steiner

Have questions about navigating the world around us? Looking for an anchoring place to learn and grow? Torah is our primary guide, the source we return to again and again for questions and answers. So, this class is for everyone! If you’re new to Torah, great! We will learn together. If you’ve been studying forever, great! There’s always more to learn —together! Join Rabbi Steiner at 9:30 am for breakfast and study. Our ancient text continues to guide us in contemporary issues. And we need your voice, your questions, your insights. Hope to see you there!


Rosh Chodesh With Sara Losch, Director of Lifelong Learning

Begins Saturday, September 7, at 9:30 am at Sara's Wyckoff home. See calendar for once a month dates.

Experience the rituals and spirituality of Rosh Chodesh, which marks the beginning of the new month. A monthly Barnert experience just for women, when we celebrate and learn together, sharing joy, wisdom and camaraderie. Rosh Chodesh takes place most months at Sara Losch’s Wyckoff home in “the cabin.” We take turns bringing breakfast. We love welcoming new women, so please join us!

Shabbat Yoga with Rachel Dewan

The physical and spiritual meet in exhilaration at Shabbat Yoga. Every level of experience is welcome.

Enter this historic Jewish conversation and discover your own Jewish soul. This is modern day take on the Talmud, where Jewish life is based. Learn how to shop, talk and think Jewishly. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary.

Preparing Ourselves for the High Holidays.

Sunday, September 15, at 9:30 am.

Whether this is your first High Holidays at Barnert, or you can’t remember how long you’ve been coming, this class is for you. We will study main themes of the holidays, explore some key texts from our liturgy, and discuss questions to feed your own spiritual preparation for these Days of Awe.

This session is designed so that each of us will have a more textured and impactful start to 5780.

Additional course topics include: Holocaust Education, Adult Hebrew, Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and Conversion.  If we are not currently offering something that interests you, please share your idea.  We will work to find the best person to lead that learning.
