BARNERT ANNOUNCES "PIONEERS" PROGRAM:
A NEW SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 5-6

Barnert Temple Preschool & Family Center in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey invites parents who have a child between two and six years old to come see its preschool and learn about its innovative Camp Barnert program especially designed for the needs of children ages two to six.

New this year is “Pioneers,” a program for 5 and 6 year olds. Barnert uses its regular facilities but adds age-appropriate activities and a travel component. Once each week, the children will be transported to places such as the Beuhler Science Center, the Wyckoff Wildlife Sanctuary and rock climbing at the Vault.

According to Sara Losch, Barnert’s Director of Lifelong Learning, Camp Barnert is focused on offering parents of young children an alternative to expensive “away” camps. “We’ve heard from many parents that in these economically challenging times, they are thrilled that they can send their child to a well respected local camp that is significantly less expensive than traditional day camps,” she explained. “They want something that is fun, but convenient and safe. Our camp offers lots of outdoor activities, large water and sand play area, a working garden, and luscious grounds for nature walks and sports activities. All activities are child-centered and stimulating to children in this particular age group.”

Barnert offers a full-day option for campers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Full-day programs include enrichment opportunities such as “The Magical World of Animals,” “Around the World in 8 Weeks,” and “I Did a Mitzvah Today” in which children participate in various activities that help to improve the world. Special programs are also brought in such as a petting zoo, magician and nature presentations.

Each group is supervised by Barnert’s regular, CPR/First Aid-trained, preschool teachers. “Teachers are especially sensitive and experienced with separation issues and can patiently ease a young child into the camp setting,” Losch commented. “The Camp Barnert schedule is designed to be flexible and convenient for families. They can choose from four-, five-, six-, seven- or eight-week sessions. This provides enough time for kids to make friends, lend continuity and still have lots of time for families to enjoy a vacation together.”
