Chanukah begins with the lighting of the first candle on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009. We invite our members and the community — all ages and stages — to our candle lightings and worship service to celebrate Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. Join us as we light our large outdoor menorah and sing songs during the Festival of Lights.
See below for a listing of events at Barnert. Scroll down for additional information on the Chanukah blessings and how to light a Chanukah menorah.

How to Light Your Chanukah Menorah (Chanukiyah)
The Chanukah menorah is called a chanukiyah. It holds nine candles - eight candles for the eight nights of Chanukah, and one "helper candle" called the shamash. The shamash is used to light the candles in your chanukiyah.
When you fill your chanukiyah with candles, first place the shamash in its special holder, which is either higher or lower than the other candles. Then place the first candle in the far-right holder. Each night you will fill your chanukiyah from right to left with the proper number of candles (adding one more each night).
When you light your candles, first light the shamash and then use the shamash to light the candles from left to right (lighting the newest candle first).
